This is a frequent question that we get from our customers. Both our 4:1 Super Wet Show Clear Coat and our 2:1 Super Wet Euro Clear Coat offer superior shine and protection. There are, however, some differences that you should know before choosing which clear coat is best for you.
Let’s start with the 4:1 Super Wet Show Clear Coat. This is a traditional American clear coat that mixes 4:1, meaning it mixes 4 parts clear to 1 part activator. It is a more user friendly clear coat that lays down slicker when sprayed and requires less buffing when dry. Hardener speeds being equal, It also cures through faster than a 2:1 clear. We recommend applying 3 coats of this clear.
Our 2:1 Super Wet Euro Clear Coat is formulated to mimic the clear coats sold in Europe. It has a 2:1 mixing ratio, meaning it mixes 2 parts clear to 1 part activator. This is a high solids clear coat, therefore, less is more. We recommend 2 coats of this clear. If you plan to apply more than 2 coats, you must add at least 10% urethane reducer to the clear to prevent solvent pop. Also worth noting, this clear coat usually requires a longer cure time before buffing, and more buffing once cured.
